Research Group Development Awards

The PEI Health Research Institute encourages the development of research groups that provide mutual support or exchange of ideas within a research domain, and the establishment of research teams to develop specific proposals. Groups can work together in many ways, from monthly meetings or internal seminars, to collaborating on grant applications. The key is the sharing of knowledge and skills. To support the development of groups or teams, the PEI HRI provides awards to assist newly established research groups or teams. Up to $10,000/yr can be allocated to research group development awards. The maximum award per group is $2,500. These are one-time awards.

Eligibility Conditions

  • It is expected that the members of a group or team, either individually or collectively, will have as a goal the submission of external grant requests, but no specific constraints will be placed on the development activities of the group.
  • At least half the members of the new group should not be associated with other similar or related groups
  • The new group cannot completely encompass an existing group
  • The group must have been in existence for less than 12 months.
  • A progress report is required from the group after six months, to permit the PEI HRI to assess the effectiveness of the program.

Application Procedure

  • Application may be submitted at any time.
  • Submit a two-page letter defining the nature of the group, the names of group members, and the proposed use for the requested funds.
  • Address the letter to the Director of Programs and Partnerships, PEI Health Research Institute.

A decision will be made within two weeks by the Director of Programs and Partnerships in consultation with the Chief Research Officer and/or the PEI HRI Research Committee.
