The PEI Health Research Institute will award up to $10,000 per year through this program. Grant Development Support may be provided for the development of a specific technique, to obtain specific preliminary data, or to test the validity of a procedure or instrument. The funds are not intended to support a complete project or to necessarily produce publishable results, but rather to support the submission of a major grant application. Applicants should clearly indicate how the proposed preliminary work will contribute to the development of a major grant application, and the granting agency to which the application will be submitted. Applicants are encouraged to clearly describe the intent of the complete project or research program that will benefit from this work. This award may be used for consumables or personnel but equipment will not be funded.
The maximum award per investigator is $5,000. The maximum will be awarded only if the applicant has had an external review (either from a granting council or through the PEI HRI pre-submission process) that indicates a requirement for preliminary data or testing. Submissions will be reviewed by the PEI HRI Research Committee. A condition of receiving grant development support is that the investigator must use the pre-submission grant review process in the subsequent grant submission regardless of the granting agency to which it is submitted.
