Activities of the PEI HRI

To achieve the mission and mandate of the PEI HRI,  the Institute will perform the following activities:

  • Develop and support a mentoring program for researchers on PEI
  • Support grant proposal writing and development, including providing internal and external grant proposal reviews
  • Support seed or development projects that will lead to external grant funding opportunities
  • Act as a resource centre for sources of funding
  • Assist in the development and identification of new funding opportunities
  • Manage the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Regional Partnership Program and similar development programs
  • As evidence of excellence emerges in specific health research areas, assist in the development of these areas through pro-active recruitment strategies
  • Maintain a website and hard copy resource library to provide information on health research activities and researchers on PEI
  • Facilitate interactions between government of Prince Edward Island, researchers and the University of Prince Edward Island (adjunct appointments, etc.)
  • Communicate with voluntary organizations and with the Institute for Human Health Research
  • Maintain a functioning communications plan for publicizing health research activities on PEI
  • Identify sources of funding to support personnel and to bring new researchers into areas of excellence on PEI
  • Develop and support programs to financially support graduate students and graduate programs
  • Sponsor a yearly health research Forum on PEI to showcase provincial health research

The PEI HRI does not duplicate existing funding activities and therefore does not fund operating grants
