Health Professional Student Research Awards
Two or three summer undergraduate student awards are available to UPEI students through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (pending funding availability). These awards provide support of $4,048 over three months, and can be increased by the supervisor of the student to a higher stipend or for a longer duration. These undergraduate studentships are available only to students who have completed at least their first year of study in a professional program (dietetics, nursing, or veterinary medicine) by the time the award is taken up and who rank in the top 20% of their class. One award will be given preferentially to each of the three professional programs, but if a suitable candidate is not available from any program, the award will be given to the next best candidate from any school. Preference will be given to applicants whose projects are not associated with any course credits. The student must work on a clearly defined, funded research project related to human health (broadly defined). The supervisor can be in any faculty at the University of Prince Edward Island or the student may be co-supervised with an external supervisor. A student may have already identified a supervisor or, prior to application, may contact the PEI Health Research Institute at 894-2812 or email peihri@upei.ca to request matching with a supervisor based on their research interests. The award is to the student and not to the faculty member. These awards are dependent on confirmation of funding from the CIHR.
